Privacy Policy
Last updated 17 October 2026
No BG is a free tool that removes the background from images and enhances their quality. This policy explains, in plain terms, what happens to your data when you use it. The short version: your images stay on your device.
Your images are not uploaded
All background removal and enhancement runs inside your own browser, using WebAssembly and, where your device supports it, its graphics chip. When you choose, drop or paste an image, it is read locally, processed on your device and shown back to you. It is never sent to our servers or to any third party, and we have no way to see it. Closing or refreshing the page discards your images and results.
What we collect
We do not collect personal information. There are no accounts or logins, no forms that ask for your details, no cookies, no analytics or advertising trackers. The only thing the site saves in your browser's local storage is your light or dark mode choice, if you pick one. It stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.
Third-party files the page loads
To do its work, the page downloads a small amount of code and data from other services:
- The background removal library is loaded from the jsDelivr content delivery network, with esm.sh as a backup.
- The Smart enhancer runs on ONNX Runtime Web, loaded from the jsDelivr content delivery network, with unpkg as a backup. The enhancement model itself is a small file served from this site. These are fetched only when you use the Smart enhancer, or when you open the Enhance tab or tick the option to also enhance, unless your browser is set to save data or reports a slow or mobile connection, in which case they load when you first use it. Your browser may cache them so later visits are faster.
- The machine learning model files the library needs are a sizeable download from the IMG.LY content delivery network. To make your first image faster, this starts in the background shortly after the page opens, or as soon as you begin choosing an image. The background start is skipped if your browser is set to save data or reports a slow or mobile connection; in that case the download happens when you first remove a background. Your browser may cache the files so later visits are faster.
Like any website or file host, these services can see standard technical details of the request, such as your IP address and browser type, under their own privacy policies. They never receive your images.
Hosting
This site is served as static files by its hosting provider. The host may keep ordinary server logs (for example IP addresses and request times) for security and reliability. We do not use these logs to identify or track visitors.
External links
The links to our other websites and to Buy Me a Coffee lead to separate sites with their own privacy practices. Nothing is shared with them unless you choose to follow a link and act there.
Downloads
When you download a result, the file is created in your browser and saved straight to your device. Please make sure you have the right to edit any image you use.
Children
No BG collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If the way the site works changes in a way that affects your privacy, this page will be updated and the date above will change.

Credits and Licences
Last updated 17 October 2026
No BG is free and open source software. This page explains how it is licensed and which open source projects make it work.
No BG's own code
The code for this website is released under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (AGPL-3.0). You are free to use, study, change and share it, as long as anything you build from it is shared under the same licence with its source code.
The complete source code is published in a public repository on GitHub, which also contains the full licence text in a file named LICENSE. The site is a single readable file, so you can also use your browser's view source option to see exactly what runs on your device.
Open source projects used
Background removal library
The removal engine is @imgly/background-removal (version 1.5.5) by IMG.LY, licensed under the AGPL-3.0. It is loaded unmodified from the jsDelivr content delivery network, with esm.sh as a backup.
Background removal model
The neural network is a version of the ISNet model from the DIS (Dichotomous Image Segmentation) research project. The model files are supplied by IMG.LY together with the library, and their terms are listed in the library's repository.
Image enhancement model
The Smart enhancer uses Real-ESRGAN by Xintao Wang and contributors, licensed under the BSD 3-Clause licence. The file served by this site is the realesr-general-x4v3 network, with the weights of its two published versions (the standard one and the noise-keeping “wdn” one) blended 50/50, as the project itself does by default, and converted to ONNX format. The network design was rewritten for this site; no other changes were made. The full licence text is below and is also included next to the model file.

OF THIS SOFTWARE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE.
Enhancement code
The tiling, resizing and sharpening code that surrounds the model was written for No BG and is covered by the same AGPL-3.0 licence as the rest of the site.
Model runtime
ONNX Runtime Web from Microsoft, licensed under the MIT licence, runs the models in your browser. It is bundled with the background removal library above, and is also loaded directly (version 1.20.1, from the jsDelivr content delivery network, with unpkg as a backup) for the Smart enhancer.
Your images
Images you process remain yours. They are handled only on your device, as described in the Privacy Policy.
